Mas Candí
Mas Candí is the duo of Ramon Jané and Toni Carbó, their winery founded in 2006 in the Alt Penedès village of Les Gunyoles d’Avinyonet. These two have been painstakingly restoring their respective families’ old vineyards throughout the region in pursuit of world-class, great sparkling wine made in the traditional or Champagne method – and they’re perhaps the most accomplished natural producers in the region, whose peers are limited to the likes of Recaredo and Gramona, but their work is done by hand, on a much smaller scale than the other artisanal producers in the region.
These are wines the likes of which haven’t been much seen in Cava-land over the last 100 years, and we’re so glad Ramon and Toni have been laboring to create these stellar sparklers. The Penedès is famous for its oceanic, fossilized soils, and you can feel it in each of these bottles. Great substitutes for Champagne, with parcel specificity, old vines, and amazing value for their prices. Salut!
